Guinness

A few shortcuts on this one, since it was intended as a Halloween costume rather than regular wear. No lining, not as much boning as I would have done otherwise, and the logo was just painted on with acrylics.

So, I never posted Halloween stuff. It was pretty simple this last year, nothing too fancy. My friend was a Guinness (photos to hopefully come soon) and I was trying for Boudicca, even though no one got that. If we hadn’t been going to the pub I would have brought my weapons, and I’m sure that would have helped my cause, even just a little bit.

I spent most of the time on the hairpiece. It’s based on one I saw in the British Museum from about that time. It was actually Greek, but hey, it’s Halloween. At the time, my hair wasn’t even long enough to ponytail, and I had to have some way to disguise the wig. It was fun anyway. It’s made from craft foam with dimensional paint and plastic studs, then painted over with gold and stone-colours.

Done!

I made a tiny pipe band.

Of sorts. The pattern is Geek Central Station’s, and is also the main reason I learned to crochet.

Handcrafted with love

The craziness of holidays is over …  and it turns out that craziness of all sorts happens all year round. Go figure.

To the point – what is probably the most awesomely unusual Christmas present I’ve ever received. Made specially for me by my brother …

jarthing1

It’s a disgusting thing in a jar! I considered putting it in the kitchen alongside some of those fancy jars of preserved peppers and tomatoes and onions, but I didn’t think that would go over too well with my roommate.

Also a couple of things I finished in the last while … a yarn swift and a fingerwoven sash for work. Fingerweaving – for those who haven’t heard of it, which was me up until I took a class on it a while ago – is simply weaving with fingers instead of a loom. Kind of like braiding, but with a lot more strands (120 in this one).

I made a sock monkey

And then I made him a hat.

Boo-ty!

It arrived! Actually, it arrived a while ago, and has been waiting for me to take photos of it … my apologies. Many thanks to Shelli! A lovely (alpaca!!) scarf, Starbucks chocolate (mmmm) and some Halloweeny stickies and pencils.

And … a photo from the Halloween event I volunteered at. Waiting around for things to get started …

I have internets! Temporarily, anyway.

Photos of some things I made, just to make the whole blog thing look a little bit more interesting.

A thingy to hang on the wall, made with muslin, plaster, paint, a styrofoam head, and other miscellaneous bits of things.

Two models, made out of just about everything, on a scale of 1/2″=1′. It took a while for my room to stop smelling of parsley and black pepper.

A Norman helmet, made out of craft foam from Michael’s and plastic lumpy bits sold for an unknown purpose (but they make great fake rivets).

And a very small top hat of buckram and black silk that (rather serendipitously) looks very good on my dog.

And of course, since I’ve kept all this stuff, dusting my room sucks.

Hmm …

They sure know how to make a person feel special, don’t they? “Just another wordpress.com weblog” …

No pics …

This is me posting! I want to put pictures of things but I can’t, because pictures are on my own PC and I do not have internet on it yet. Working on it.

I have a blog.

I am not sure how I feel about this. But I want to join a swap, and a blog is apparently a prerequisite. So here I am.

That’s all I’ve got to say. It’s my boss’ fault. The end.
